Waste Walk Checklist

To reduce the amount of waste your operation produces, you first need to observe what’s going on. This checklist outlines the seven different types of waste you might encounter:

  • Transportation
  • Inventory
  • Motion
  • Waiting
  • Overproduction
  • Overprocessing
  • Defects

Each section of the checklist includes 2-4 questions that will get you and your team members thinking about what you see. This provides a jumping off point that you can use to brainstorm areas of improvement.

Once you’re done filling out the checklist, you can list out the action items you’ll take to ensure improvements moving forward. Each time you perform a waste walk, log this checklist in your database so you can review issues over time.
