Hazard Classification Checklist

Making changes to the processes and equipment within your operation is inevitable. With each change you make, however, you risk the potential of a new safety hazard. As you modify your existing systems and introduce new variables, you must be careful to review the entire operation for potential hazards.

The hazard classification checklist will help you decide what type of hazard you are dealing with. Class I hazards do not require any additional process hazard analysis. But Class II hazards will require you to do a pre-startup safety review (PSSR) or some other form of hazard analysis, review, and prevention.

Use the hazard classification checklist whenever you make a modification or add in a new system to your overall process. It is a quick way to determine how significant the potential hazards are and how you should address them before introducing changes.
